Nonprofit hospice organization to present 32nd Annual Crystal Rose award at state-of-the-art raceway
DETROIT (Aug. 13, 2018) – Hospice of Michigan will celebrate the work of dedicated community advocate Rabbi E.B. (Bunny) Freedman at SPEED – A Chandeliers Event from 5:30 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 13 at the M1 Concourse located at 164 South Blvd. in Pontiac, MI. This year’s fundraiser will offer guests the opportunity to experience Dodge Hellcats and Vipers with a professional driver on the M1 Performance Track. The annual fundraiser honors those who have shown passion and commitment to the nonprofit hospice organization by supporting Hospice of Michigan’s Open Access Fund and its mission to provide comfort and care to all those in need of its services, regardless of diagnosis, age or the ability to pay.
Rabbi Freedman will receive the nonprofit hospice organization’s 32nd Annual Crystal Rose Award for his work as CEO and founding director of the Jewish Hospice & Chaplaincy Network. In 1991, Freedman created the Jewish Hospice Services Program at Hospice of Michigan before establishing the Jewish Hospice and Chaplaincy Network. The JHCN educates hospitals, hospices, home care agencies and nursing home facilities on how to best care for Jewish patients. As CEO, Freedman focuses on community relations, fundraising and staff development and has been a major force in educating the public on Jewish end-of-life considerations.
The Crystal Rose symbolizes the nonprofit’s roots as a volunteer-based organization and the early practice of placing a single, long-stemmed red rose on the bed of a patient after death in tribute to that person’s life.

The evening will feature a strolling dinner, short program and one-of-a-kind thrill rides with professional drivers on the M1 Performance Track. A private, VIP driving experience package with an estimated value of $1,000 will be auctioned as well, offering bidders the chance to take the driver’s seat on the M1 Performance Track. Individual tickets are available for $120 and include valet parking. Rides are available to ticket holders for an additional $100 donation.
