This November, Hospice of Michigan recognizes National Hospice and Palliative Care Month and acknowledges the many ways end-of-life care can bring comfort, dignity, and peace for patients, caregivers, family, and friends.
Whether end-of-life care is something you’re learning about or something that has touched your life personally, here are three ways you can make a meaningful difference for Hospice of Michigan:
- Spread awareness. There are many myths and misconceptions when it comes to hospice and palliative care – what they are and are not. End-of-life care is not about giving up but about living fully each day in the comfort of wherever a patient calls home. Experienced staff provide physical, emotional, and spiritual support to both patients and caregivers alike. To learn more about hospice and palliative care, click here.
- Offer your time and resources. As a not-for-profit organization, Hospice of Michigan relies on volunteers and donors to make this work possible. Whether you offer administrative support, provide a listening ear for a patient at the bedside, or commit to a monthly gift, there are many meaningful ways to use your gifts and talents to bless others. Your resources are what fuel this mission – so that care can be accessible to everyone who needs it, regardless of age, diagnosis, or financial circumstances.
- Talk to loved ones about their end-of-life wishes. It is not an easy conversation, but it’s one of the most important. Discussing your loved ones’ (and your own) end-of-life preferences ensures that when the time comes, their needs and desires for care can be fulfilled in a loving and thoughtful way. This month – and every month – your time, voice, and support help bring comfort to patients and families throughout Michigan. Thanks to you, compassionate care is available to all who need it.
