Students aged 14 to 17 are eligible to become junior volunteers for Hospice of Michigan. This may be one way of filling community service hours required at some high schools. In a patient care situation, an adult volunteer or HOM staff member will supervise junior volunteers. The range of activities that junior volunteers may perform includes:

  • Community projects, events and other non-patient care situations
  • Direct patient care, such as visiting with HOM patients
  • Reading to a patient
  • Working on an art or craft project with a patient
  • Helping a patient tell their life story

Junior volunteers must take four hours of training to be able to provide non-patient care services, or 12 hours of training to provide director patient care services. Find out if you're suited to become a Hospice of Michigan junior volunteer.
