Junior Volunteer Qualifications

The junior volunteer status is offered to students aged 14 to 17 years who wish to volunteer for Hospice of Michigan.

    Responsibilities may include:
  • Community outreach, events and other non-patient care activities
  • Direct patient care activities - an adult volunteer of HOM staff member will supervise individual or multiple junior volunteers while fulfilling assignments
    • such as visiting HOM patients,
    • reading to patients
    • engaging HOM patients in arts or craft activities
  • Maintains confidentiality
  • Provides required documentation
  • Attends educational/support meetings whenever possible
  • Facilitates community awareness and support of HOM
  • Junior volunteers may not provide transportation for the patient or family caregiver
    Qualifications:
  • Age 14-17 years
  • Parental consent for TB testing must be completed and on file prior to administration of TB test for patient contact junior volunteers
  • Demonstrates good interpersonal communication skills
  • Successful completion of basic HOM volunteer training (4 hours) or patient services volunteer training (12 hours)
  • When junior volunteers reach the age of 18 and have completed the 12 hour HOM Patient & family Services Volunteer Training, they will have adult volunteer status.
