The grief support volunteer provides follow-up information, grief support, and companioning under the supervision of the grief support services manager and in accordance with client-centered outreach approach and GSS service delivery model.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Provides information, grief support and companioning
  • Communicates with GSS clients at approximate designated intervals via phone, mail and visits
  • Facilitates support groups when trained/if interested
  • Maintains confidentiality
  • Attends education and support meetings whenever possible
  • Facilitates community awareness and support of HOM
  • Provides required documentation

Qualifications:

  • Minimum age 18 years
  • Demonstrates good interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrates healthy adjustment to loss
  • Demonstrates understanding and sensitivity to grief/loss process
  • Demonstrates the ability to accept people as they are
  • Successful completion of required clinical services volunteer training plus grief support companioning training; plus grief support group facilitation training if conducting groups
