TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. (Aug. 21, 2016) – Join Hospice of Michigan for a free screening and discussion of the PBS FRONTLINE documentary, Being Mortal, from 5:30 – 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 21 at the City Opera House, located at 106 East Front Street in Traverse City. The 54 minute film is based on the best-selling book by Atul Gawande, M.D.
The film explores the hopes of terminally ill patients and their families, investigates the practice of caring for the dying, and delves into the relationships between patients and their doctors.
Following the screening, moviegoers are invited to a special panel session at 7:15 p.m. with medical experts moderated by Jack O’Malley, Hospice of Michigan volunteer and WTCM-FM morning host. Attendees will learn how to take steps to identify and communicate wishes about end-of-life goals and preferences.
Panelists include:
- Dr. Mark Zook, medical director at Hospice of Michigan
- Stephanie Vanslyk, registered nurse and advance care planning specialist
- Kathryn Holl, grief support service manager at Hospice of Michigan
