Hospice of Michigan to host free screening of Being Mortal on April 18 at Gaylord Evangelical Free Church

GAYLORD, Mich. (March 31, 2017) – Join Hospice of Michigan for a free screening and discussion of the PBS FRONTLINE documentary, Being Mortal, from 6  to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, April 18 at Gaylord Evangelical Free Church, located at 1649 M-32 in Gaylord. The 54 minute film is based on the best-selling book by Atul Gawande, M.D.

The film explores the hopes of terminally ill patients and their families, investigates the practice of caring for the dying, and delves into the relationships between patients and their doctors.

Following the screening, moviegoers are invited to a special panel session with experts to learn how to take steps to identify and communicate wishes about end-of-life goals and preferences.

Panelists include:

  • Jeanne Hough, LMSW, director of care management at Otsego Memorial Hospital
  • Michele LaFave, MD, medical director at Hospice of Michigan
  • Pamela Lynch, ANP, internal medicine nurse practitioner at Otsego Memorial Hospital
  • Pastor Jim Mathis, associate pastor at Gaylord Evangelical Free Church
  • Paul Slough, estate planning attorney with Kirkpatrick, DuBois and Slough PLC

Hospice of Michigan partnered with Otsego Memorial Hospital to bring this documentary to the Gaylord area.
