Hospice of Michigan thanks you for your interest in donating a car in support of our organization and its mission.

For donors in Michigan's Wayne, Oakland, Macomb or Washtenaw Counties: Charity Motors will pick up your car for free and tow it to their Detroit auction house. You'll be provided with a tax receipt for the car's Blue Book value.

For all other donors: A representative from Charity Motors will attempt to arrange to have an auto auction house near your home pick up the car and sell it locally. You'll receive a tax receipt for the amount the car is sold for at auction.

Why the difference in how the IRS deduction is calculated? New federal laws dictate that any charitable deduction derived from a car sold at auction should be in the amount of the car's selling price, not the value as defined by the Kelley Blue Book. The law grants exemption to any auction house situated in what is defined as a 'low-income area', allowing the organization to continue to credit sales at the car's Blue Book value. Charity Motors is based in such an area. As such, Hospice of Michigan recommends them as the auctioneer of choice for residents of the aforementioned counties.

Though Hospice of Michigan recommends Charity Motors, we gratefully accept donations from any and all organizations and individuals. When contacting any organization, please remember to specify Hospice of Michigan as your designated charity.
